Time: Mon. Evening 6.30-9.20 pm.
Textbooks: Sternberg, R. J. (1999). Cognitive Psychology, 2nd ed Harcourt Brace.
Course Objectives: This course will cover the topics studied by cognitive psychologists - attention, perception, learning and memory, concept formation, and intelligence. It will include historic and recent approaches to the field. Both cognitive neuroscience and PDP approaches will be discussed. It will examine the experiments that have led us to our current conclusions.
Homework: Homework will be distributed in every class, and will be taken primarily from the Sternberg book and lectures. It will be due the next class period. You must submit homework on time in order to get full credit. Each assignment will be worth up to 10% of your homework grade. Together the assignments can contribute to 50% of your final grade.
Outside readings: You will select one topic for a fifteen minute class presentation or paper. (10% of your grade)
Quizzes: There will be four quizzes. (40% of your grade)
Extra Credit: Extra credit may be earned during every class period, and is strongly encouraged.
Grades: A = 95%, A- = 90%, B+ = 87%, B = 85%, B- 0 80%, etc.
