Sping 2001 General Psychology (Psych 101)


Office Hours: Tuesdays 7.10-8 pm, Wed. 1-2.15 pm, and by arrangement.

Textbook: Psychology (1999), Henry Gleitman, Reisberg Fridlund, 5th edition, W W Norton

Course Objectives: This course will survey the major areas studied by psychologists -. Biological Bases of Behavior, Motivation, Learning, Cognition, Sensation and Perception, Memory, Language, Social Behavior, Development, Intelligence, and Personality. It will include historic and recent approaches to the field. It also will examine fundamental methods of scientific research.

Papers: You are responsible for completing one short paper. You must submit this by the end of the semester. The paper will be worth 15% of your grade.

Presentation: Groups will select one problem, will present their findings in fifteen minutes to the class, on the last day of class. (15% of your grade)

Quizzes: There will be four quizzes. (70% of your grade)

Extra Credit: Extra credit may be earned during every class period, and is strongly encouraged.

Grades: A = 95%, A- = 90%, B+ = 87%, B = 85%, B- 0 80%, etc.
