This is a place to discuss strange and/or puzzling phenomena. Stuff that seems to be outside the bounds of conventional science. Stuff that may or may not be real, depending on whom you ask.
Topic 2 [strange]: How shall we go about it?
Ground rules. Whenever possible, let's try to look at a specific report and make judgements about whether it seems credible. What's the source of the report? Are the witnesses credible? What are possible mundane explanations? We are interested in stuff that is compelling and seriously puzzling, and we are also interested in reports that seem just plain goofy -- demented. All of this reveals something about the current state of the national psyche.
Personal testimony is strongly solicited here. What has happened to you, your friends, your family, etc., that has always bothered you -- that you just can't figure out? Note that people will not be forthcoming if they are greeted by jeering skeptics on the sidelines, so let's be gentle Our purpose here is to try to fathom what is really happening. Questioning and investigating should be possible without being harshly judgemental.
That is at bottom the only courage that is demanded of us:
to have the courage for the most strange, the most singular
and the most inexplicable that we may encounter. That
mankind has in this sense been cowardly has done life
endless harm; the experiences that are called "visions,"
the whole so-called "spirit-world," death and all those
things that are so closely akin to us, have by daily
parrying been so crowded out of life that the senses by
which we could have grasped them are atrophied. To
say nothing of God.
