Brief bio sketch
Andre Gide was born in Paris, France on November 22, 1869. He married a cousin
in 1895 and they were married 42 years -- believed to be the longest
unconsumated marriage in recorded history. He became a writer
and published an interesting variety of literature, including plays,
journals, fiction, and autobiographical material. He was awarded the
Nobel Prize for Literature in 1947. He died in 1951.
